Swedish architects and designers explore the paradoxes of public space and its accessibility, and suggest a new dimension of luxury: public luxury. This oxymoron encapsulates the issues relating to space that is supposed to be for everyone; space that everyone can make their own, irrespective of their gender, their social standing or their background.
All the works on show, many of which were specially made for the exhibition, set out to tell a story about public life today.
The exhibition features the work of the following artists, designers and architects: Rebecka Bebben Andersson, Björn Dahlström, GIL – Gothenburg’s Cooperative for Independent Living, Hilda Hellström, Sandi Hilal & Ana Naomi de Sousa, Åsa Jungnelius, &Rundquist Arkitekter, Uglycute and Clara von Zweigbergk.
The exhibition Public Luxury at the Institut suédois is a smaller version of the one with the same name produced by ArkDes, the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, presented in 2018 in Stockholm and made by Kieran Long, Daniel Golling, Marie-Louise Richards and Lena Landerberg. The selection
