Although Hilma af Klint (1862 – 1944) remained almost unknown for many years, she is now compared with the greatest modern painters and her work is seen as revolutionary. Almost 80 years after her death, she holds a significant place in the history of early abstract art in Sweden and worldwide.
Hilma af Klint dreamed of a building in the form of a spiral to house her most important work. She sometimes referred to it as a place of worship, sometimes as a museum. In any case, the visitor was supposed to attain a heightened level of awareness when looking at her paintings. This experience is now made available thanks to virtual reality.
