Located in the heart of the Marais, the mansion called the Hôtel de Marle, named after its first owner in the 16th century, has been home to the Institut suédois since 1971. Its façades, its barrel-shaped « Philibert Delorme-style » roof and its main staircase are all listed historic features. Its French-style painted ceilings are equally remarkable.
As for our permanent art collection, the Institut Tessin collection testifies to Franco-Swedish artistic relations from the 17th to the 20th century, with treasures such as artworks by Gustaf Lundberg, Alexander Roslin, Adolf Ulrik WertmĂĽller and Louis-Jean Desprez.
You will also have the opportunity to discover our temporary art exhibition Suivre les ondes, which presents Lars Fredrikson, a major 20th-century artist, alongside two contemporary artists, Anastasia Ax and Christine Ă–dlund. Although they are ostensibly very different, there are many points of contact between them: all three created bold experimental forms within a broad expressive range, and all three shared a fascination with the way energy moves, transforms and manifests itself in different materials and the way communication takes place between different states and life forms.
