Who we are

A little piece of Sweden in the heart of Paris.
Photo of the Institut suédois' roof, resembling an upturned hull.

The Institut suédois offers free admission to contemporary art exhibitions and multidisciplinary events – music, cinema, literature, performing arts – as well as a permanent exhibition of paintings and engravings from the 18th century. Since it opened in 1971, its home has been a remarkable mansion in the heart of the Marais. The FIKA café in the courtyard offers a seasonal menu inspired by the region of Sörmland. On sunny days, its lush green terrace offers an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The garden dotted with 20th-century sculptures provides a peaceful retreat all year round.

The Institut suédois is the only Swedish cultural institute outside Sweden. It fosters cultural and artistic exchanges between France and Sweden, through its exhibitions and events programme, its residencies for artists and researchers based in Sweden, and its Swedish language courses.
