Blazing Live

In resonance with the exhibition "Blazing Grace", the garden hosts a glassblowing performance by Fredrik Nielsen and Markus Emilsson, in collaboration with Andrew Erdos.
A man holding a stick into a fire oven to make a glass sculpture.

Fredrik NIelsen trained at the National School of Glass in Orrefors and at the Royal Institute of Art in Sweden as well as at the legendary Pilchuck Glass School in the United States. He lives and works in Stockholm and exhibits his work in Sweden and internationally. In addition to his own practice, Fredrik manages The Garage Stockholm, one of the independent workshops that have contributed to the revival of Swedish glassmaking. He has received many public commissions and his work features in such prestigious collections as those of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Corning Museum of Glass in New York and the MusĂ©e Ariana in Geneva. He enjoys a longstanding relationship with the Wetterling Gallery in Stockholm. He is one of the artists presented in the “Blazing Grace” exhibition.

Markus Emilsson, curator of the exhibition at the Institut suédois, is also a glass artist. He exhibits his work both in dedicated galleries and art centres and in less conventional spaces. Projects include exhibitions in private homes, hybrid works mixing physical and digital elements in the urban space, ephemeral sculptural trails in natural landscapes and an exhibition of glass art that visitors view on roller skates. Keen to engage with the public, he regularly works as a curator, consultant and teacher. He trained at the Kosta Glass School and at the National School of Glass in Orrefors and holds a Master of Applied Arts degree from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. He was the guest curator at the Växjö Konsthall, after having been responsible for exhibitions and artistic development at The Glass Factory museum in Boda

Andrew Erdos is an American contemporary artist and glassblower. His practice focuses on sculpture, design and new media. The artist works around notions of natural phenomena and the sublime. The four elements – earth, air, fire and water – are a fundamental part of her creative process. His unique pieces combine ancestral and contemporary glassmaking techniques, reflecting both nature and the industrial world. His works are in the collections of several museums in the US (Museum of Art and Design in New York, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, New Britain Museum of American Art, among others) and at Mobilier National in Paris.

DJ Thomas Lavernhe will accompany the performance.

As part of Paris Design Week.

In collaboration with POUSH Hot Glass.
