For over twenty years, the Franco-Swedish couple have been steadily forging their artistic path. Peter von Poehl and Marie Modiano have each released numerous albums while developing a shared creative world spanning music, literature, cinema, and dance. In 2021, they released their first joint album, Songs From The Other Side, the original soundtrack to a show that premiered at the Centre Pompidou. Their second opus, Capri – Ballad Of The Spirits, came out in summer 2024 and once again blends spoken word and song, establishing what has become their signature style—both on stage and in the studio.
For this once-only concert in the garden, they are joined by their longtime collaborators: American drummer Larry Mullins (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Iggy Pop, The Swans…) and Swiss bassist Fred Jimenez (The Needles, Jean-Louis Murat, Johnny Hallyday…).
Peter von Poehl is a Swedish singer-songwriter based in Paris. In the early 2000s, he collaborated with many artists on the French music scene, including Michel Houellebecq, Lio, Vincent Delerm and Renan Luce. He launched his solo career with the album Going to Where the Tea Trees Are (2006), which reached a wide audience. Since then, he has released several critically acclaimed albums, including Memories from Saint-Forget (2021), and performed worldwide alongside artists such as AIR, Brian Wilson, St. Vincent and Phoenix. Renowned for his live performances, von Poehl favours unusual venues—museums, churches, rural settings—and hybrid formats blending music, dance and visual arts. He has also composed numerous film scores, including Vanishing Waves and Ravens, the latter earning him a prestigious Guldbagge Award for Best Original Music.
Marie Modiano is a singer, songwriter, poet and novelist. Since her debut album I’m Not A Rose (2006), she has developed a unique creative world blending song, spoken word and poetry. Music and writing meet—in one direction, the other, or somewhere in between: her poetry collection Espérance mathématique (2012) was set to music by Peter von Poehl; her album Pauvre chanson (2018) was released alongside a book with the same title. She has created two stage productions with Peter von Poehl: Sur les chemins de Patti Smith, in collaboration with American visual artist Jason Glasser, and Once Upon a Time in Paris, Stockholm / A European Tale, with the Orchestre National de Normandie. She has published four novels, which have been translated into several languages: Upsilon Scorpii (2013), Lointain (2017), Mur de Nuages (2022) and L’île intérieure (2024).
