EMS was set up in 1964 with the utopian and visionary idea of helping to change the world by creating new music. Stockholm quickly became one of the most important centres for new music in Europe, establishing close links with composers and studios in France. For 60 years, EMS has been a crossroads of musical experimentation with branches all over the world.
As a tribute to the studio with which he has often worked, Tarek Atoui brings together seven artists around his concept of “experimental lute-making”, an innovative way of making and using musical instruments. Artists working in a range of genres and practices thus form an ensemble performing acoustic and electronic improvisations in a grandiose venue: the Église du Saint-Esprit.
Performers:
- Tarek Atoui
- Hampus Lindwall, musician, composer and organist at the Église du Saint-Esprit
- Stephen O’Malley, composer, guitarist, producer and visual artist
