Music and Dance Performance: Swaying Contour

In a performance combining dance with music, the Curious Chamber Players collective and the dancer Momoka Kihara explore the subtle connections between movement and sound, echoing the exhibition devoted to the avant-garde painter Barbro Ă–stlihn.
Photo of a group of people leaned over a table, playing with objects.

Barbro Ă–stlihn (1930-1995) lived at the heart of effervescent art scenes in Stockholm, New York and Paris. Her paintings were all about quiet concentration, however, and possess a sense of powerful stability. The Curious Chamber Players collective draws inspiration from this contrast, creating a performance that swings constantly between action and immobility. The series of pieces they present here explores the tension of the body, the energy of music and the way the performance space interacts with the listening experience.

Founded in Göteborg in 2003, Curious Chamber Players is an international ensemble known for its boldly experimental approach to contemporary music. Its members tirelessly explore unconventional musical forms, from minimalism to noise music and from electro to improvisation. The ensemble stands apart for its innovative way of presenting concerts and sound installations, creating unique site-specific experiences and playing with time and space.

At the Institut suédois, the group presents a performance combining flutes, clarinets, acoustic objects, percussions and contemporary dance.
