Open-air cinema: Beyond Dreams

The Institut suédois is taking part in the festival Les Traversées du Marais and welcomes you for a movie screening under the stars. This year, discover Rojda Sekersöz’s first feature-length film, an ode to women’s friendship, resilience and strength.
Four young women are sitting on a bench in front of a tagged white wall.

After serving time in prison following a hold-up for which she abandoned her gang of girlfriends and their rules, Mirja goes back home and must face a new reality: her mother is seriously ill. Mirja either has to find a job or find herself homeless. She copes with the situation by living a double life between her family and her gang. But her efforts at social integration also mean that she has to come to terms with betraying her friends and their dreams.

The actress, poet and artist Rojda Sekersöz first came to the attention of cinema audiences and critics with this feature film, which is many regards reminiscent of Céline Sciamma’s Bande de FillesBeyond Dreams won the award for Best Nordic Film at the Gothenburg International Film Festival in 2017 and the France Télévision Award for Best Film at the International Women’s Film Festival in Créteil. Evin Ahmad (Mirja) gives an outstanding performance, earning Best Woman Actor awards at several festivals (Duhok IFF, Santa Barbara IFF, etc.)

Before the screening starts, the pop-up-café version of FIKA sells snacks and drinks in the garden.
