Ritual Conversation #2: Ylva Snöfrid + Christophe Galfard

This event is the second in a series of three Ritual Conversations, where Ylva Snöfrid and her guest explore existential themes through the experience of "Codex Cosmos et Vanitas". The artist has invited Christophe Galfard, author and science advocate, to share his thoughts.

Codex Cosmos et Vanitas is a journal made up of 1,200 drawings that Ylva Snöfrid made daily between the winter solstices of 2020 and 2023. The journal is a means of collecting, organising and cultivating the artist’s thoughts, as well as materialising them in artistic form. The drawings have been gathered together and bound into three volumes focusing on the central themes of her work: Birth, Life and Death. The artist has invited Christophe Galfard to share his reflections on the third volume of the journal: Death.

Dr. Christophe Galfard is a French scientific author and science advocate. After graduating from École Centrale, he studied Advanced Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University and got a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics under the supervision of Professor Stephen Hawking, with whom he worked on black holes and the origins of our universe. Christophe has written four scientific novels for young adults, two essays including the best-seller The Universe in Your Hand, and one coffee-table book, Voyage to Infinity. His latest work Les Explorateurs de l’Univers, published in November 2024, is a graphic novel about the universe. The books are translated in 25 languages and millions of copies are sold worldwide. Christophe Galfard has also hosted several documentaries, for the BBC, France 5 and Chinese television broadcaster CCTV9. In the last few years, Christophe has toured the world to give talks about the cosmos and the quantum world.

The encounter between Ylva Snöfrid and Christophe Galfard begins with a ritual centred around the Codex Cosmos and Vanitas journal and an elixir crafted by the artist. The conversation will then take place in English.
