Ritual Conversation #3: Ylva Snöfrid + Marie Darrieussecq

This event is the second in a series of three Ritual Conversations, where Ylva Snöfrid and her guest explore existential themes through the experience of "Codex Cosmos et Vanitas". The artist has invited Marie Darrieussecq, author, to share her thoughts.
Drawings from the first volume of the artist's journal, on the theme of Birth.

Codex Cosmos et Vanitas is a journal made up of 1,200 drawings that Ylva Snöfrid made daily between the winter solstices of 2020 and 2023. The journal is a means of collecting, organising and cultivating the artist’s thoughts, as well as materialising them in artistic form. The drawings have been gathered together and bound into three volumes focusing on the central themes of her work: Birth, Life and Death. The artist has invited Marie Darrieussecq to share her reflections on the first volume of the journal: Birth.

Marie Darrieussecq is a writer who was born in the Basque Country. A graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, formerly a psychoanalyst, she has published some twenty books, mainly novels, as well as short stories, a biography, a play, essays and translations. Awarded the Prix Médicis in 2013, she writes for contemporary art magazines in France and the UK. Her latest novel Fabriquer une femme was published in January 2024. She was awarded the Prix CIEF for her entire body of work, which has been translated into many languages including Swedish.

The encounter between Ylva Snöfrid and Marie Darrieussecq begins with a ritual centred around the Codex Cosmos and Vanitas journal and an elixir crafted by the artist. The conversation will then take place in English.
