The Company – what’s your story?
Nola was founded in 1980 in the form we know it today when Agneta Stake took over the company.
With great community involvement, passion and responsiveness to the prominent architects and urban planners of the time, she formed a company that would become a guide for what urban spaces and places could look like.
At Nola, we proudly call ourselves community-engaged problem solvers. For us, this means that our design is always and has always been out of real and human needs.
The product: Wimbledon, Big and small Basket & Kaskad chair
Nola’s furniture can be experienced in the Swedish Institute’s café where the furniture series Wimbledon by Broberg & Ridderstråle is part of the décor. There are also selected parts of the furniture series Alnön by Thomas Eriksson and beautiful green plant groups in the planters Gro by Mia Cullin.
There are also the generous and inviting armchairs Big & Small Basket by Ola Gillgren in the garden, as well as the wire chairs Kaskad by Björn Dahlström, which were given as a gift to the Swedish Institute in connection with its 10th anniversary in 2021.
What’s your secret?
When Agneta Stake took over the company she initiated an intensive audit to meet the demands of a new era that demanded better products for the public outdoor environment. With great community involvement, passion and sensitivity towards the prominent architects and urban planners of the time, she sculpted a company that would become a guide for how the urban environment could appear and function. Before then, it was unusual for urban space products to bear the hallmarks of a designer or architect.
Creative collaboration continues to be a cornerstone of Nola’s design ethos and its impact on urban planning. Today Nola works with many or Sweden’s most recognisable designers and architects and has garnered many awards along the way. Production of our range is undertaken exclusively in Sweden with sustainability and quality at it’s core.
