July 2025 residents

Firdevs Anik
Writer
03.07.2025 – 30.07.2025

“I am a writer driven to explore women’s living conditions, my Kurdish heritage, class, and life in immigrant-dominated, socially disadvantaged areas. These themes shape both my writing and personal life. I have published texts in newspapers, magazines, and anthologies, and I am currently working on a novel manuscript, which partly takes place in Paris. I grew up in Uppsala and hold a degree in political science, having also studied at a writing school.”

“In Paris, I will follow in the footsteps of Kurdish filmmaker Yilmaz GĂĽney. After being imprisoned in Turkey for his films about the oppression of Kurds, GĂĽney spent his final years in exile in Paris. My ambition is to write an essay about the intersection of political activism, the Kurdish experience, and writing in exile, and I hope to gain new insights into GĂĽney’s life by visiting the Kurdish Institute in Paris, which he helped establish.”

Eva Ax Riise
Artist and designer
03.07.2025 – 30.07.2025

“I am an artist and pattern designer with numerous solo and group exhibitions since the 1990s. Painting and making patterns are my main means of expression. In my paintings I search for an image hidden beneath the surface. Several layers of painting create atmosphere and new dimensions in the meeting of colour and shape. As a pattern designer, I make great use of my knowledge of colour and shape.”

“While I am in Paris I will be working on my project French Floors. The project is about the transformation of a pattern depending on the material it is displayed on. There are so many different designs of tiled floors in Paris. I will be photographing tiled floors in their environment, creating new designs and meeting the tile manufacturers. The project aims to highlight and make visible the treasure of French flooring that is part of French culture.”

I have a residency together with Evelina Johansson, set and costume designer, currently working at Malmö Opera and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern Stockholm.”

“We are travelling to Paris to start work on the case of French fraudster Therese Humbert. The idea is to have a first draft of the monologue and start working on it together with the actress nora sandholm-azemar and find inspiration for both visual expression and venues in Paris.”

Hugo Hedberg
Choreographer and artist
17.07.2025 – 30.07.2025

“I am a choreographer and artist based in Stockholm, with a background in art, pedagogy, and choreography. I aim to create imaginative, inviting, and melancholic works through dance, text, and music, with an emphasis on humor and ambiguity. My interdisciplinarily practice includes choreography for dance and theater, as well as art workshops for children. I have presented works at venues like Weld, Marabouparkens Konsthall i Stockholm and Ung Scen Ă–st i Linköping.”

“My project explores Dadaist and Situationist ideas of absurdity, playfulness and liberation. I will examine the Dadaist performance Excursions & Visites and the Situationist concept of “dĂ©rive” to experimentally investigate the impact of the city on bodily and emotional experiences. Following Guy Debord’s map Naked City, I plan to transform my experiences of strolling and psychogeography into text, movement and choreography.”

Lisa Janbell
Dance artist and choreographer
03.07.2025 – 16.07.2025

“I am Lisa Janbell, a Stockholm-based dance artist and choreographer working in the performing arts field. My work weaves together ritual practices, techno music, and electroacoustic soundscapes, creating performances where the subconscious emerges through collective, somatic experiences. My works have toured Europe, Cuba, and Sweden at venues like SĂłnar (Barcelona), Augenblick Mal (Berlin), Teatro Raquel Revuelta (La Habana), Dansens Hus, MDT (Stockholm), Inkonst (Malmö), and Norbergfestival.”

“During my residency at the Swedish Institute in Paris, I plan to explore the contemporary dance scene, build new connections, and expand my network in Europe. I will also take dance classes rooted in the African diaspora and engage with Paris’ experimental music and jazz scenes. The goal is to lay a foundation for my upcoming work Deep Leap and explore future collaborations.”

Daniel Lisskar
Architect
17.07.2025 – 30.07.2025

“I am an architect dedicated to discovering and telling stories. I have had the good fortune to meet people; colleagues, scientists, experts and practitioners who share an interest in investigating the legacy of a place based on how people have used space and how their stories can be expressed physically. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to investigate the implications of stories on a city of this scale and I hope to have the chance to incorporate your story in the story of Paris.”

“What stories are perpetuated when cities are built? Who chooses them? Architecture and urban planning have always been means for power and money to manifest. Is this about to change? To build a city, physical materials are required. But bricks and marble in themselves mean nothing without a vision of the message that one wants to convey. Whose story gets to be told? How do we find traces of stories told by people using spaces? This is what I want to investigate during my stay in Paris.”

Eva Susso
Children’s book author
03.07.2025 – 16.07.2025

“My first book was published 30 years ago, since then I have published 50 books. I enjoy collaborating with illustrators from different countries. One of them is Benjamin Chaud. My new book The Princess and the Penguin is illustrated by the Belarusian illustrator Katsiaryna Dubovik. I have had the opportunity to meet readers in schools and in different countries. I have also been engaged in The Swedish Writers Union and a member of The Children’s Book Academy in Sweden.”

“I have a new project together with another illustrator from France, Christian Epanya, originally from Cameron. We met at a book fair about ten years ago and promised each other that we would make a book together sometime. Many other projects has been standing in the way, but now we are able to make it, and my stay i July in Paris will be the beginning of that collaboration. I really look forward to it!”

Jesper Waldersten
Artist
03.07.2025 – 16.07.2025

“I’m a Swedish artist, born in Stockholm in 1969, working across multiple disciplines, painting, drawing, text, and photography. I’ve published a dozen award-winning books and exhibited my work both internationally and in Sweden. My exhibition “Waldersten All Over” at Fotografiska in Stockholm drew over 100,000 visitors. I hosted the radio program Sommar in 2018, reaching millions. My latest exhibition was this spring at CFHILL in Stockholm. Currently, I am writing my second poetry collection.”

“I am currently working on a project called Pitch Black, where night-black charcoal drawings, infused with warmth and humor, intertwine with fragmentary texts and straightforward poetry. The project will culminate in one or more exhibitions and a book (with a publisher, designed by Henrik Nygren). I expect between 100 and 250 finished original drawings and an equal number of texts. I’m drawn to Paris to infuse my work with French energy and to find inspiration in the rich culture.”

Viktor Westerberg
03.07.2025 – 16.07.2025
Artist and songwriter

“I am a songwriter and music producer from Stockholm, my main project being the indie disco duo Tomode. In December of 2024 we toured France for a week and played at CafĂ© de la Danse in Paris and at the Bars en Trans festival in Rennes. Beyond writing and producing music for my own projects, I’ve collaborated with some French artists together with our label Riptide Records which is based in Lyon. My main instruments are keys and vocals.”

“In November of 2024 we released our debut album ‘Existential Disco’ and during the spring of 2025 we’re doing our first headliner tour through Europe. After this I’m really looking forward to coming to Paris to get inspired and write some new music. I have already planned some collaborations with French songwriters and producers, but I’m also looking forward to just delving deep into my own creativity in a new and beautiful environment at the Swedish Institute.”
