To coincide with the presentation of their project Al-Madafeh: the Right to Host as part of the Public Luxury exhibition at the Institut Suédois, architects Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti present their latest book Permanent Temporariness (Stockholm: Art and Theory Publishing, 2018).
Permanent Temporariness is at once a book, a catalogue and an archive covering 15 years of research, experimentation and creation exploring and acting on (or against) the condition of “permanent temporariness”. From Hilal and Petti’s first work, Stateless Nation, shown at the Venice Architectural Biennale in 2003, to their more recent architectural interventions in refugee camps, the book brings together 14 concepts driving 17 projects, each of which is the result of a wide-ranging process of collaboration with specialists in various disciplines including Maria Nadotti, Charles Esche, Robert Latham, Salwa Mikdadi, Eyal Weizman, Okwui Enwezor, Munir Fasheh, Grupo Contrafilé, Murad Odeh and Rana Abughannam.
The publication of this book, edited by Maria Nadotti and Nick Axel, was made possible thanks to generous support from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, the New York University Abu Dhabi Art Gallery, the Van Abbemuseum, and the Foundation for Arts Initiatives.
Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti will be discussing their new book with Michel Agier, anthropologist and director of studies at EHESS and Kader Attia, artist and founder of La Colonie.
Discussion in English.
