7ebra is a duo formed by 25-year-old twin sisters Inez and Ella, who hail from Malmö. Inez plays electric guitar while Ella is on keyboards, organ and mellotron. Together they create enchanting vocal harmonies as only twin souls can. The resulting tunes are punky, minimalist and epic all at once. Their first album Bird Hour is a fusion of their minimalist indie rock and the talent of their producer Tore Johansson, known for his work with Franz Ferdinand and The Cardigans. Released on 5 May, the album has met with critical acclaim: “Definitely one to watch for the future” (Clash Magazine), “The music 7ebra make together is immersed in a secret language” (Pitchfork) and “A brilliant debut album ⊠a real find” (The Sunday Times).
As for Ehla, she grew up in the South of France in a family of music-lovers. A child of the 1990s, she was quickly immersed in the sounds of hip-hop and soul (Stevie Wonder, Aaliyah, Lauryn Hill) and tackled her shyness by composing tunes on her synthesiser. Her passion for music took her to Paris: a leap of faith thatâs palpable on her first EP whose title track âPas dâiciâ (Not From Here) was a hit. Playlisted by many radio stations and streaming platforms and included on the KitsunĂ© compilation, the song was synched up several times, for example in the TV series Emily in Paris and Gossip Girls. Her first album, Pause, released in June, channels ultra-sensitive, intimate pop tinged with soul and R&B. To bring this project to fruition she worked with several talented artists including Twenty9 (Dinos), Augustin Charnet (Disiz, Emma PetersâŠ) and BlasĂ© (member of the band Haute). Ehla is supported by Spotify as part of its Radar programme devoted to emerging artists.
