Bergman-bar #1: Writing and Bergman

During three evenings, Swedish and French artists and specialists working in different disciplines will discuss the relationship between their creative work and Ingmar Bergman and also the way he relates more broadly to their chosen field. On 22 November, we turn the spotlight on literature!

Ingmar Bergman seems to have a very ambiguous relationship with writing. Although famous for his films and stage work, he wrote constantly throughout his life. Did he dream of being a writer? How do his written work and his films inspire today’s writers?

With:

  • Jan Holmberg, film historian and director of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation. He is the author of a book published in Sweden in 2018, Författaren Ingmar Bergman [Ingmar Bergman the Writer].
  • Abdellah Taïa, Moroccan-born French writer and filmmaker. His books, written in French, have been translated into a number of languages, including Swedish. He says that when he moved to Europe, Bergman’s Through a Glass Darkly “saved his life”.

In French and Swedish with consecutive translation in French.
Admission free while seats last.
The pop-up bar opens at 18:30. The event begins at 19:00 sharp.
